Wrestling 8/30

Zmans Wrestling Top 10 of the Week

1. Big props to The Brian Kendrick. Although he just gave a promo this week, it was still quite entertaining. I am happy to see him finally get his due. And he does look like Leo DiCaprio, so whoever has been making that claim has been correct.

2. I am also glad to see Shelton Benjamin finally step into the role of a pseudo main eventer. He has definitely earned his spot and it is good to see raw talent be rewarded. He would be my pick to win the Smackdown Scramble Match at Unforgiven.

3. Speaking of, since it doesnt look like Khali will leave Triple H alone, here is how I see things playing out. Benjamin or MVP wins the title at Unforgiven due to interference. Triple H faces Khali at Cyber Sunday with the implications that the loser must retire. HHH wins and Khali goes back home to get surgery he needs and to be retired from the WWE.

4. I'm also pulling for a Big Show-Undertaker match. I do not want to see Taker in the world title picture. He doesn't need it at this stage in his career and should let others get a shot with the belt.

5. Primo Colon is very very bland. The best thing they can do for him is either team him up with his brother or add him to the Dibiase/Rhodes stable for powerful sons. Hell that's what they should have been doing all along since they have Deuce (son of Snuka) on the roster. It'd be pretty cool to see some kind of second generation stable like that.

6. The more I think about it, the more it should have been William Regal in the main event slot at Unforgiven over Rey Mysterio. I love Mysterio, but they are ruining a perfectly good storyline with Kane by having him come back so soon. Maybe have him make a surprise appearance to fight Kane then and let the better wrestler Regal in the slot for the finals, especially to add new blood to the main event picture.

7. I have been watching late night AWA lately, and boy it is rough to watch the end of that company. The wrestling stinks and all the good wrestlers were taken away by the WWF or WCW. And then you had Zybysko and Baron Von Raschke talking about the Gulf War in horrible terms. No wonder the company folded so soon after.

8. Ill watch a Kimbo Slice - Ken Shamrock fight. The first Kimbo slice was one of the grossest things I have ever seen in my life, but put him a ring with the world's most dangerous man and I am excited to see what transpires.

9. Ok, Booker T needs to settle on an accent. Is he Spanish, Indian, or British now? Personally I loved his British accent with King Bookah! He should also be TNA Champ. Get the belt off Joe already, it's becoming stale. Oh and memo to TNA, we saw this New vs Old storyline at the end of WCW, and look what happened with that company.

10. Anyone heard from Elijah Burke? He had a ton of potential and I would have loved to see him at a higher stage today, but it seems like he fell back into the cracks of the WWE. Same goes for Chuck Palumbo, Paul London, and DH Smith.

Zman’s Wrestling Top 10 of the Week 8/23

  1. Kudos to the WWE for picking up Gail Kim for their female division. This does a couple things in the world of pro wrestling. First off it gives TNA a full chance to get behind Taylor Wilde and push her like they did for Kim. Secondly, it brings up the issue of which brand she will go to. They could put her on Raw and push for a triple threat with her, Mickie, and Beth, or they could put her on Smackdown where she feuds with Natalya or Maria. Either way, props to them for getting her services.
  2. Its cool to see to that the WWE signed AJ Styles to the ECW brand. Good for them and…wait, that’s Evan Bourne. Well I’m still a big fan of him. And it looks like the crowds supporting him too. But it def looks like they’re molding Bourne after the Phenomenal One, and nothing wrong with that.
  3. Ever need a good laugh? Go check out Braden Walker on YouTube. After his quick release, his matches went from tough to watch to funny to watch. Thanks for the pick me up Wildcat.
  4. When I fell asleep last night I had a dream that the WWE put Brian Kendrick in a main event championship match. Then I woke up, checked the web, and holy crap. Great for him, Shelton, MVP, and Hardy. Nice to see some new names in the mix for the title.
  5. I wish Raw went the Smackdown route with the Scramble. Hate seeing Batista, JBL, and Kane in the mix. My dream Raw Scramble Match would involve Punk, Cena, Jericho, Regal, and even Kofi. Get some new blood in there, cmon WWE.
  6. Big fan of the move to Matt Striker to the announce booth. He has a lot of potential and I’m glad to see WWE do something with him that doesn’t involve the former teacher getting in the ring.
  7. Speaking of which, there are rumors that Mike Adamle is training to be a wrestler. I say boo-urns to that. Stay as GM and be the confused leader that is slowly warming up to the audience. Teddy Long didn’t get in any matches, you should stay out of the ring too.
  8. Prediction of the week – LAX breaks up around the new year. Hernandez stays in TNA and is renamed SuperMex. Homicide quits and gets a push in ECW under a newer family friendly WWE trademarked name.
  9. Just a thought, which Smackdown midcard star is gonna turn face soon. There are an abundance of heels, and the only midcard faces I can think of are Jeff Hardy, Big Show, and …I got nothing. My idea is to turn Miz and Morrison. Have em feud with Hawkins and Ryder and I truly think people are ready to cheer them.
  10. I’m a big fan of the new superstar initiative on ECW. Ricky Ortiz is a cool new character, I spoke bout Bourne and Walker before, and I like Gavin Spears too. Seems like they could model him after Lance Storm.
